What is Meditative Creative Writing?

Our courses combine guided meditation with a practice of freewriting that allows us to access new material, to stay in flow as creative people, and to encounter ourselves on the page with openness. Accessing this space of non-judgement helps us to expand and clarify our writing, release our limitations, and heal our lives. All of our courses are further supported with optional readings and writing prompts that help to ground this spacious inspiration in form. Meditative Creative Writing honors the intellectual side of writing while making space for the intuitive, often mystical process that leads to inspiration.

Here are 4 core ideas behind Meditative Creative Writing:

  • Writing is energy. Writing is consciousness. Writing allows us to move energy, change consciousness, and heal and evolve ourselves, our familial and ancestral frameworks, and our culture.

  • Our lives have sacred meaning. We each have something unique and important to create. Writing lets us discover that meaning without giving that power over to others.

  • Writing relies on alone time, but it is not solitary. It is a collaborative space between our present and past selves; our self and our ancestors; our experienced knowing and our imaginations, our body and spirit, the present writer and future reader. It is always a co-creation.

  • Writing is justice work. Writing subverts power by telling a more complete story. It listens for the voice that has not yet been heard. It expands the bounds of compassion and changes the writer, the reader, the world.
